Columbines – Mixed Age

The Columbine Camping Chapter was established in 1969 within the state of Colorado and the national membership of FCRV. Our members comprise families with children, grandchildren and those working and retired.

We welcome everyone who likes to camp from a tent to an RV. Some members stay in cabins when available. We generally camp within a 1–2 hour drive of the Denver metro area.

We plan our annual camping with everyone’s participation in advance of the camping season that runs from April to October with one planned camping event the 3rd weekend of each month. We arrive on a Friday and leave on Sunday, but some choose to arrive earlier and leave later. The off months, we have a monthly meeting the 3rd weekend at someone’s home, restaurant, or event center.

Each month, a volunteer called the Wagon Master (Host), plans and communicates to members the timelines for campout registration, any planned events, and at least one group potluck meal. And, yes, even going out to a restaurant as an option when we are out exploring the area. Members may go fishing, hiking, exploring or stay at the campsite and talk or play games.

A holiday tradition is gathering and donating toys. We have written holiday cards to our troops and have gathered socks, gloves, and clothing for the homeless.

We welcome new members as we carry on the traditions of those before us that love camping, and the friendships made being part of the Columbines.
