Columbines – Mixed Age

The Columbines Camping Chapter was formed in 1969, with the Colorado Family Campers and RVers (FCRV). Many of our members have been with the Columbines for over 25 years and our club consist of working adults and retired members. Most of our members reside along the I-25 corridor from Loveland to Parker. Activities are scheduled for the third weekend of each month.

Our chapter accepts and encourages all types of campers and members camp with 5th wheels, travel trailers, motorhomes and there have been some folks join us in tents or stay in cabins if available at the campsite. Columbines try to select camping areas with partial or full hookups within a 100 mile or 2-hour travel radius of Denver. One or more of the member families will volunteer to be the “Wagon Master” for each campout/event. This family arranges the camping location and optional activities such as themed potlucks, tours or dining out. Throughout the summer (April through October), we plan our camping trips for Friday thru Sunday, with some members arriving earlier or staying longer, depending on their free time. Some of our members often bring their furry friends and family (pets) along for the weekend.

Our potluck meals have been scheduled for a breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is always a lot of food to enjoy by all. Some are themed by cuisine or align with a weekend activity.

Daytime activities could be a Brewery tour, local museum or attraction, games, nature trail walks, fishing or just hanging out with each other to catch up and enjoy the camp views. Some of the campouts have live entertainment or group activities for all to enjoy.

Evening activities could be dominoes, card games, star gazing or just sitting around the fire eating smores and other snacks.

During the winter months when we’re not camping, we plan monthly weekend meetings at restaurants or member’s homes.

We gather toys for children, socks and gloves for the homeless and send greeting cards to the troops during the Holidays. Between events, we stay in touch via Email and Facebook regarding planning for campouts and activities.

So, if you would like to use your camping skills more than once or twice a year, and would like to meet some great folks, then come camp with us! You might be a stranger at first but will become a friend forever!
